Men Need to Lead

Passage James 4:13-17:
Warning about Self-Confidence
13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil. 17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.
Now is the time for men to lead in every aspect of life. Many of us just sit and let women do all the work in the home, the workplace, and church. There are great women who take the leadership role because men do not. That needs to stop, men.
This leadership role does not mean that men should be dictators and abusive. This means that men need to show up, participate, and be involved in the decision-making processes. Too often, we just go along with whatever everyone wants whether it is right, wrong, or indifferent.
A friend of mine remarked recently that, “We men need to be mighty men of God.” This is an essential characteristic of leadership. We need to be godly men because we must look to Him for strength, wisdom, and humility.
Philippians 2:3 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than you.” This is a difficult thing to do when you are in a leadership role, but vital if you want to remain in that role.
In Proverbs 13:10 it says, “Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.” Leadership does not mean that you bark orders, and ignore other ideas. The worst thing you can do is dismiss someone’s ideas because they are not your own.
The humble role is not easy because it is not natural for a “leader type” to have humility, but we are commanded to be humble and not exalt ourselves. Luke 18:14 says, “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
We must be mighty men, and avoid frightening people from joining the team, group, church, or company. If you do not know how to be a leader then learn. Stop whining, and grow up today.
